Spring: A time for renewal

Spring is a time for reflection and renewal. As flowers bloom in preparation to fruit and birds build nests in preparation for their new families, humans can also take time to examine and prepare for their well-being. Here is how I have been doing this.

Recognizing Anniversaries

Two years ago this month, my business closed abruptly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I did not provide massage for over one year. That year was tough. It brought grief, frustration, and fear. But, it was also a time for me to connect with my children who were learning from home and to direct my creativity to the written word.

Next month marks one year since I reopened my doors and resumed my massage practice. Each day I go to the office I feel deep gratitude for the people who trust me to provide a safe and effective bodywork session.

This month also marks the 26th year that I have been certified massage therapist. It was 26 years ago that I received my first massage certification at the age of 19. At the time, I wanted a way to bring comfort to people while earning an income to support me through college. Little did I know that 26 years later I would still be providing nurturing touch and massage. Today, I fully embrace the absolute joy I get from this profession and the people I serve.

Transitions

As my massage practice becomes busier, I have reassessed how I spend my time. For me to provide the best bodywork and massage sessions I can, I must be refreshed each day. That means having downtime and a creative outlet.

I have always loved reading and writing. As a child, I loved perusing my grandparents book shelf. I would lounge in my room and visit far away places in The Odyssey or The Secret Garden. As I grew older, I would write to express myself.
I stopped writing for fun while in college earning a Bachelor's degree in English then a Master Degree in Counseling Psychology. The pandemic gave me time and space to resume writing. Plus, I needed a way to express myself.

Last year I took a chance and sent a short story to a local writing contest. Guess what? I won! Since then, I have continued to write and submit my writing to various publications. And, I am working on a children's chapter book. Stay tuned for updates to progress on this.

All that being said, I had to find the time to write. Something had to give. So, I decided to stop creating the Positively Being Well podcast. The last episode went out last month. You can listen to it by clicking below.
